Cranberry Cottage Bed and Breakfast
Our Italionate Victorian house was built in 1880 by John & Clara Funkey. It remained a private residence until the 1930's when it was divided into two units. One unit became a Doctor's office, the other became Stubbs Funeral Home. In later years it served as an apartment house with four apartments and also as a restaurant. In 1989 the tired old house was purchased by Dick and Lee Phillpott, the present owners, and restored to its former grandeur. The thirteen hundred square foot house was added as a mother-in-law cottage which we now know as Cranberry Cottage Bed & Breakfast.
Waynesville is noted for it's antique stores, art and specialty shops and the Ohio Sauerkraut Festival. The second weekend of October each year is set aside for the Sauerkraut festival. For two days (Saturday & Sunday) our five blocks on Main Street plus the space of several side streets is turned into a sea of white tents filled with food vendors and great crafters from all over the country. Three hundred thousand people attend our festival each year. It would not be Fall without coming to the Ohio Sauerkraut Festival. Come see for yourself. The leaves are turning, the air is crisp and the food is fantastic! An event you should not miss. Originally planned to be a fund raising effort for the community schools, civic organizations and churches, the Sauerkraut Festival continues today as their largest income event each year.
The Village of Waynesville which was settled in 1797 by fourteen Quaker families is steeped in history. Waynesville is the most haunted town in Ohio and we offer ghost tours during the month of October hosted by our Waynesville Museum.

Main Street....Waynesville, Ohio.
Back when life was unpaved roads, and travel was a buggy ride.

Waynesville in the early 1900's. Buggies, dirt roads...Waynesville's business district. Today, the same street, but business on Main Street goes on a little differently.
This is the corner of Main and Miami in the early 1900's.
